Winter 2019

The 2019 LaHave Weaving Studio workshop schedule is OUT (sorry for the delay!).  I am thrilled to be able to offer textile workshops such as Thnking Textiles/Constructed Surfaces with Warren Seelig, Designing Geometrics with Nancy Price, Textile Discoveries with five instructors, weavng workshops taught by myself, Lesley Armstrong, You Know You Need a Bait Bag! with Brooke Gray, and more.  I am also offering, for the third season, free public lectures, "Textile Conversations" over the summer with visiting artists.  See for the list of workshops and public talks.

On the Armstrong Textiles front an exciting development is looming (pun intended).  I won't count my chickens before they are hatched but I'll be sure to tell you as soon as a possible vintage loom arrives.  This will enable me to expand my weave structures for my production business.  Fingers crossed!

Fall/Winter 2018/19

During the Fall and Winter of 2018/19 Lesley will be re-designing Armstrong Textiles, both the business and the website.
If you need to get in touch, don't hesitate to email or phone 902-220-5430.  Look out for new styles and a new look in the Spring of 2019.

At LaHave Weaving Studio in Lunenburg, the Summer 2019 workshop schedule will be out by the end of October
and a highlight of next summer will be Warren Seelig, well-known American artist and teacher, teaching one of our workshops.
Other new workshops are being currently planned as well as our "Textile Conservations" schedule--free talks by artists, researchers,
or local historians--all relating to textiles.

A new year stretching out in front of us--hope for change always on the horizon.  On the Armstrong Textiles homefront, I have bought a used stove for my garage studio at home.  Heat is a comin'!  This will allow me to do some "serious playing" (otherwise known as designing) on a couple of looms in there during the winter months.

On the LaHave Weaving Studio homefront, in a renovated old Lunenburg Foundry building in Lunenburg, the hand looms are covered in white sheets waiting for spring and the start of the summer workshops.  Please check out the LaHave Weaving Studio 2018 Workshop Schedule  and you'll see new workshops and visiting instructors. This summer take a Textiles Discoveries Tour of the South Shore trying your hand at rug hooking, weaving, museum visits, and basket-making.  You can "Unfold the Mysteries of Pattern" with Nancy Price and develop your own repeat pattern step-by-step, with Nancy's help. Sharon Orpin will teach you about the joys of spinning your own yarn at a weekend workshop.  Enrich your wardrobe or furnishings with Kate Delmage at the "Embellish!" workshop--stitching, folding, beading, cutting onto a bag, a hat, a cushion, a sweater. Learn to weave during a variety of workshops, including a weekend Weave a Driftwood Hanging.  Contact Lesley 902-220-5430 or

July 2017

The LaHave Weaving Studio is up and running.  It was wonderful to see so many friends, new and old, at the Opening in June.  The space is full of light and weathered wooden beams and floors.  There are still spaces in the upcoming workshops: Introduction to Weaving, Intermediate level, 2-Day Weave Your Own Scarf, Weave a Rag Rug or Wall Hanging, and Weave a Wool Throw & Pillow. I am working on two looms myself--hemp towels and a large linen wall hanging.  Two big events are happening in Lunenburg shortly--Tall Ships and the Folk Harbour Festival. Happy Weaving. <>

News on the Armstrong Textiles studio front is that I'm installing a stove in the two-storey garage at home.  Yeah!  There should be heat soon which will allow me to work both on the old Hattersley loom for production work and do some prototyping
on a small Leclerc loom on the second floor.  I'm assuming that the heat will rise!

On the LaHave Weaving Studio front, in Lunenburg, the hand looms are covered in white sheets waiting for spring.  The 2018 Workshop Schedule is out with a great variety of workshops being offered with visiting instructors.  If you've ever wanted to adorn or refresh a plain handbag, apron, hat, sweater, dress Kate Delmage will show you show with the 5-day workshop called "Embellish!".  Nancy Price will "Unfold the Mysteries of Pattern" taking you on a path through developing your own pattern ending up with a finished repeat pattern. Have you ever wanted to learn how to spin or need to refresh your spinning technique, Sharon Orpin will help you every step of the way in a weekend spinning workshop. Anke Fox is offering her Introduction to Tapestry with a packed workshop full of learning--experimenting with colour, texture, and techniques.  Lesley will be teaching a range of weaving workshops, from 2-day projects (the loom is set up for you) to 5-day workshops in Intro/Refresher Weaving and Rug Weaving for intermediate weavers.  Contact Lesley for more info <> or call 902-220-5430

Local Wishlist

Check out the Local Traveller's 5th Annual Local Wishlist for some holiday gifts.  Armstrong Textiles is featuring its two best-sellers this fall, the BARK Scarf and the Cropped Poncho.

Check out the Local Wishlist items on the Local Travellers site.  Armstrong Textiles has featured its best-selling pieces this fall, our signature BARK Scarf and the Cropped Poncho.

This fall, after showing at the NYNOW Show in August, Lesley was busy filling store orders.  The Hattersley Domestic loom was chugging along with the usual little bumps and idiosyncricies that come with a 70-year old loom.  With help from our wonderful friend and mechanic, Didier, long-suffering husband John, and myself doing some jurying-rigging here and there, the Hattersley loom reigns victorious. Didier is convinced that we can get the older, second Hattersley Domestic Loom (foot-pedal-powered) and the accompanying winder up and running.  Stay tuned for that video!  Now with just re-orders coming in but life is back to normal now.

The summer of 2017 will see LaHave Textile Workshops start up again! From 2002-2004 LaHave Weaving Workshops were held in the wonderful and charming LaHave Bakery--well worth a visit! Now that we have permanently moved to the LaHave River area, Lesley is thrilled to be planning workshops again, this time in a different location. Lesley will offer introductory/refresher and more advanced levels of weaving workshops, as well as specific project workshops (such as "Weave a Rag Rug" and "Weave a Throw"). From time to time, visiting teachers will be conducting additional workshops in other textile areas. Please watch here for the announcement of the new location and the 2017 LaHave Textile Workshop schedule.  Email  Lesley and ask to be notified when the 2017 schedule comes out.
